Blogger Spilt Milk wears Ille De Cocos candy stripes and dreams of wafting about in nothing but red lipstick and her lover's shirt ☺. Here she shares the realities of life as a recent mum and beauty and style blogger.
I love what I do because...
I’ve ended up doing a bit of everything - a Jack of all trades and master of none! By some weird twist of fate (I can't claim any planning went into this) I now spend half of the week at home (mostly out shopping ☺) with my daughter, half of the week in my 'day job' and the rest of the time in-between frantically slapping skincare products on my face and blogging about acne, espadrilles and how to combat grey hair. I love the variety (and contrast) it brings to my post-maternity leave life and since starting to blog as the 'spilt milk' I've really developed a passion for photography and writing. I always knew that I was obsessed with buying clothes and beauty products (sigh) - but it has been so much fun channelling my creative juices (daaarling) into something completely new. In addition, I've also been able to 'justify' buying more stuff. Yeah, go blogging!
I find inspiration...
Anywhere I can take my phone and have a good old scroll through Instagram. I'd like to pretend that I am inspired by passers-by whilst nibbling on a soy, sourdough crostini in a Shoreditch eatery. But the reality since having a baby 7 months ago is that I don't go out like I used to. On the odd occasion that I am out I am generally either too plastered to notice other people's looks or I'm with my daughter and consumed by trying to rescue teething toys that have been chucked on a rancid cafe floor. So the majority of my inspiration comes from a good old style stalk on Instagram, whilst breastfeeding or sitting on the loo. There is so much accessible stuff out there, like @dresslikeamum @chloelovestoshop @nowweare40 that you don't need to leave your sofa to get an outfit sorted. God bless the Internet and home delivery.
Great style to me is...
Effortless chic. If I could be reincarnated as a Parisian waif with flawless skin and a penchant for wearing nothing but red lipstick and her lover's shirt then I would. Sadly, I ain't that gal. But being comfortable in what you wear is the key to any outfit (in addition to highly structured underwear).
I'm currently coveting...
A decent night's sleep and about 4kg of postpartum weight loss. Both of these things seem unlikely so I'd settle for a really great pair of dungarees. This kind of ties (seamlessly) into the next question, which is...
What is big for Spring?
Dungarees and jumpsuits are absolutely everywhere but I can't seem to find any that have made me look anything other than bulky and a bit of a loser. Maje had an amazing looking pair of black denim dungarees that I quite fancied - so probably those with a pair of dungaree shaped Spanx would be first on my list.
